Almost two years ago, we rounded the corner at the Gift Show and found George
Marchacos and his fabulous mining sluice. We were immediately intrigued and - while
there was no direct connection to an arts & crafts studio - we instinctively knew we had
to have one. Running water, dirt, cool rock treasures....What child could resist?
Our gut instinct proved correct and it was an overnight success. Not only did it set us
apart from other arts & crafts studios, it added another attraction for boys - a harder
target to attract in our industry. While we have yet to really tap the scout troops and
classrooms, they are beginning to find us on their own. The mining sluice is offered to
walk-ins but it's the birthday party add-on that has been key in increasing revenue on
existing sales.
Currently averaging about 350 bags of mine rough a month, the kids keep on coming
back for more. Collecting and trading is quickly becoming a hobby we hope to
proliferate.
Working with George and Cold River Mining has been a positive and rewarding
experience. They are extremely service-oriented and the price/value of the mine
rough/rocks is beyond comparison. Our long term plans include multiple locations and
none of them will be complete without a mining sluice. We hope to maintain our

find a use for a building that for years had been used simply as storage.
Since bringing Mt. Mooselaukee Mining Co. to our campground, we have had such a

putting on the hard hats and mining lamps and going on a "treasure hunt" into the

2004 for the upcoming tourist season. It turned out to be extremely successful from both
a revenue generating and entertainment perspective. George has also been a complete

On a personal level, George became a very good friend of mine and many staff members
